Ruptured Flowline, Pass a Loutre WMA, LA

On 14JAN, USCG Sector New Orleans contacted NOAA SSC about a ruptured flowline in Pass a Loutre Wildlife Management Area. The release was discovered on 6JAN and initially reported as 4 gl and then updated to 10 bbl. Upon further investigation, USCG estimates 200 bbl released over several days. The source point is located within rosocane marsh, ~1,000 ft diameter area affected. Initial cleanup operations are flushing the perimeter and 50 bbl liquid recovered thus far. A wildlife recovery center has been established in Venice to support 9 oil birds. USCG is establishing a Unified Command and Incident Command Post at Sector New Orleans to handle cleanup operations.
